Welcome to the unofficial website of the Fortress of Louisbourg Volunteer Militia / La Milice de Louisbourg!
Founded in 1994, the militia's purpose is to recreate the civilian militia companies present in the town of Louisbourg during the period of 1713 to 1758.
During the months of June to October, we participate in street tableaus, and musket and cannon demonstrations. Various other events at the Fortress such as Canada Day festivities, the Feast of the Assumption, Fete de St. Louis which is the Feast of Louisbourg's patron saint, and mini-encampments fill the rest of our year.
Upon request, and time permitting, we also appear at community events throughout Atlantic Canada, performing 18th century drill, musket firings, and acting as good-will ambassadors for the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic site.
We hope you find our website both entertaining and informative!
